Below is a page about the book projects connected to our 20 Book Challenge.

20 Book Challenge Book List

Book Reviews

Objective

By making a book project of our choice, you will show an understanding of the book that you read. But this will also be a way for you to show your rotation a book that you enjoyed, as well as the reasons that you enjoyed it.

What do I need to do?

  • You need to pick one of the books that you have read this year. It can be any of the books that you read for the 20 Book Challenge.
  • Fill out the planning sheet that is attached. You will include the main characters, setting, main events, and things you liked about it.

Book Project

Once you finish your summary, you are ready to create your project. What should go into your presentation?

-Who wrote it... and a little bit about him/her.

-What happened in the book...

-Why you liked/didn't like the book...

-Who might be interested in the book...

What projects can I create?

  • A Book Jacket Cover: You will make your own cover for the book, just like those that are on hardcover books. This can be made in many ways, but has commonly been done on construction paper. The front should be an illustration you have made, inside cover should be a summary of the book, back inside cover should be about the author of the book, and the back cover should be about you! You'll get a chance to present this to the class, and talk a little bit about the book (and show your book jacket).
  • A Powerpoint: this will be presented to the class. It should have some pictures of the book, maybe of the characters (or scenes), and possibly the author. The powerpoint will discuss what the book was about, who might be interested in reading the book, as well as the author.
  • An example Powerpoint can be found here (Mr. Hanson's powerpoint for the book Rules)
  • A Book Review: this will be a typed review of the book. It should include a summary of the book, who wrote it, and what you liked about it (in detail- why did you like it). This should be a book that you like, because it will make it more enjoyable for you and the audience. You can choose a book you don't like, but that is not recommended.
  • An audio book talk (photostory) or done in class- write a script and record it or present it in class
  • Other: you could make a poster, or some other presentation. But check with Mr. Hanson first.

Things to Consider:

-Do you have enough detail in your presentation?

-Is the detail specific, or will it be hard for someone to follow?

-Is your work spelled correctly, and do all of your sentences make sense?
